After AIG..another insurance giant to sponsor United kit

Posted by manutd on 02 Jun 2009 | Tagged as: EPL

AIG have financial problem. So, it is almost 100% sure that United will get new shirt sponsorship. Some said..its Sahara..some said..Saudi Telecom…and now…another insurance giant, AON.

The ambiguous financial future of current Manchester United sponsor AIG is causing the club to seek other options elsewhere in case the firm is, as speculated, forced to end its link prematurely with the Premier League champions.

As such, the Old Trafford outfit has been holding talks with insurance giant Aon over a shirt sponsorship deal that could fetch United an annual sum that exceeds $32 million, according to British daily the Sunday Mirror.

It has been reported that the new deal could be in place by preseason, meaning Manchester United’s kit next season would have the new sponsor dominating the front of its jerseys, and not AIG.

Aon has been in conversation with United ever since it was announced that the recession had hit AIG.

One insider is reported to have told the paper, “Talks have gone well and it’s 90 percent certain that Aon will be United’s new shirt sponsor. Whether it happens next season or the year after is yet to be decided.”

Manutd earned the most in Money League this season!

Posted by manutd on 01 Jun 2009 | Tagged as: Uncategorized

This is why Manutd is the most succesful club nowadays. Play good football & makes profit!! If this trend continue, I don’t thing Manutd will slip and end up as loser Liverpool.

MANCHESTER United earned a table-topping £90million in prize money and TV cash from all competitions last year.

That is nearly £60million more than bottom club West Brom - with £33.7million coming from the Reds’ march to the Champions League final.

Figures for the 2008/9 season reveal the Champions League is now worth around double the amount to the top four clubs than it was three years ago.

The figures do not include ticket money and merchandise income where the big four also dominate.

The rise in income from the Champions League is partly due to the strength of the euro against the pound, partly to the increase in the value of the competition’s TV rights and also to the fact that English clubs have dominated the latter stages of the competition in recent years.

A UEFA source admitted revenue distribution from the Champions League could have a negative effect on national leagues.

The source said: “We acknowledge imbalances can widen the gap between the rich and not so rich. We are talking to the clubs to see if there is a way the money can be distributed so the national leagues do not become too imbalanced.”

The Premier League chairmen will gather for their summer meeting this week facing the reality that the four clubs at the top are increasing their financial stranglehold on the English game.

It was the disparity between the top four and the rest that led to Bolton chairman Phil Gartside to outline revolutionary proposals for a two-tier Premier League, but those are not on the agenda for this week’s meeting in Leicestershire and appear to have been put on the backburner.

Nevertheless, the figures may increase pressure in some quarters for the Premier League members to look once again at how their income is distributed among the 20 clubs.

Despite a recent change to the distribution, the number of times a club’s Premier League matches are screened live still has a significant impact on earnings.

For example, no fewer that 25 of United’s games were screened live and for each of those the club earned £480,000, totalling £12million, compared to the eight clubs who received the minimum payment of £4.8million - fees for at least 10 games are now guaranteed even if a club has fewer televised matches.

Even relegated Newcastle brought in £9.6million from 20 games compared to £4.8million for neighbours Sunderland.

The clubs are likely to be told on Thursday and Friday that they should receive a bigger chunk from overseas TV rights in the future - these are shared equally between clubs.

They are currently worth £13million per club annually and when the deals for the 2010-13 period are finalised that could reach close to £20million.

Happy 35th Anniversary Sir Alex Ferguson as Manager

Posted by manutd on 01 Jun 2009 | Tagged as: News

It is 35 years to the day since Sir Alex Ferguson entered football management. What can I said??…He is the real SPECIAL ONE!

On June 1 1974 - the year Paul Scholes was born - a 32-year-old Ferguson was appointed manager of East Stirlingshire on a part-time basis earning £40 a week.

Three-and-a-half decades later Ferguson has become the most successful British manager of all time.

The Scot’s first success came with St Mirren, the club he led to the 1977 Division One title and guided to the Scottish Premier League.

Ferguson’s next port of call was Aberdeen, where he won three Scottish Premier League titles (1980, 1984, 1985), four Scottish Cups (1982, 1983, 1984, 1986), 1983 European Cup Winners’ Cup, 1984 UEFA Super Cup and 1986 Scottish League Cup.

All this success came at least four years before the Da Silva twins were even born.

In November 1986 Ferguson replaced Ron Atkinson as manager of Manchester United.

Old Trafford had to wait four years for a trophy under Ferguson, but the Scot has never looked back since that first FA Cup triumph in 1990.

Two Champions League trophies, 11 league titles, 15 more domestic trophies and a host of personal honours have followed, making Sir Alex Ferguson arguably the best manager in the history of the game.

A third Champions League victory may have been beyond the Red Devils last week, but United still finished Ferguson’s 23rd season in charge as world and English champions and League Cup winners.

Happy anniversary, Fergie.

Forlan explained why he failed in Manutd

Posted by manutd on 01 Jun 2009 | Tagged as: News, Transfer News

He just won another La Liga Golden Boot this season with Atletico Madrid. Last time… he claimed the title with Villareal. Very good goal scorer but failed miserably at Manchester United. Why??

Diego Forlan has explained why he failed to impose himself during his spell with Manchester United.

The prolific Forlan has won the Golden Boot after bagging 32 league goals with Atletico Madrid this season, leading the capital’s second club to a Champions League spot.

The Uruguay international only claimed 10 Premier League goals in two years and a half at Old Trafford, and he has explained his bad figures by his lack of regular action and starts in England.

“The competition was hard at Manchester, there was [Ruud] van Nistelrooy, [Dwight] Yorke, [Andy] Cole, [Ryan] Giggs, [Ole Gunnar] Solsjkaer,” he told El Pais. “I only appeared for 10 minutes every time. That is why I moved to Villarreal, who were not the club they are today.

“I left United to revive my career and this challenge proved a good decision.”

He said about his future: “I am not forced to leave Atletico, speculating is useless. I am very happy in there. If something comes, it will be studied.”

Yeah….he must be right and United just losing one of the most prolific goal scorer!

Real Madrid will have a €250m war chest

Posted by manutd on 01 Jun 2009 | Tagged as: Champions League

It will be more difficult for Manutd to get hold of next year Champions League title if this news is true. EEmmmm….another Galacticos in the making…

Super agent Ernesto Bronzetti has claimed that Real Madrid presidential candidate Florentino Perez will have a €250m war chest when he takes over the reigns at the La Liga club and will put the funds to good use when the transfer window opens. The news will come as a worry to numerous clubs around Europe hoping to ward off the predatory advances of Los Merengues and also to transfer rivals such as Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Inter Milan and Barcelona who’ll want to avoid bidding wars for the continent’s most prized stars.

Speaking on Italian television, Bronzetti confirmed that the Spanish businessman was ready to bring back the ‘galactico’ era to the Bernabeu stressing:

“Florentino Perez has €250m to spend on a list of players he wants.

“Among these players are [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic, Kaka, [Franck] Ribery and, of course, Cristiano Ronaldo, who has already signed a contract.

“Of course, he will not be able to get everyone, but some players from the list will be Real Madrid players.”
